“On November 22, the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering held a ceremony to dedicate two new laboratories: The Laboratory for Developing Technologies to Assist People with Disabilities headed by Assoc. Prof. Reuven Katz, and The Laboratory for Developing Brain-Computer Interfaces for Rehabilitation headed jointly by Assoc Prof. Miriam Zacksenhouse and Assoc Prof. Reuven Katz. The new laboratories will work in close collaboration, each supporting the activities of the other with the goal of using research and technological development to improve the quality of life and the rehabilitation process for people with physical disabilities and for the older population. The ceremony was attended by representatives of the Technion administration, as well as the Faculty’s academic and administrative staff. Prof. Peretz Lavie, President of the Technion, Prof. Paul Feigen, Senior Executive Vice President, and Prof. Pinhas Bar-Yoseph, Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, spoke at the ceremony. They stressed the importance of these laboratories to the Technion, to the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and especially to the students, who will learn about the special needs of these population groups and have the opportunity to contribute to the community by means of research projects in which they design, manufacture and test new products.”
